Last Week

August 12, 2013

Looking back to last week…

I wrote a lot of thank you cards, and hello baby cards!

We went out for Indian food and I had a delicious glass of red wine for a friend’s birthday… such a treat.

Somehow I have become obsessed with chocolate, I couldn’t get enough of these hots chocolate flakes last week, despite the heat!

We are still making little adjustments at home, adding shelves here and there and tidying up, it’s so nice to change things up every now and again, and makes me look at the house anew again. Adding flowers is my favourite, quickest way to do this.

Saturday morning I made French toast with bacon, berries, syrup, yogurt and syrup. Then I went for coffee and cheesecake with a friend and shopped for bits for dinner… much sweetness had that morning!

My sister-in-law and her boyfriend came to stay Saturday night and we stayed in making cocktails with fresh melon (mine were virgin of course) and a mountain of Greek food… My Mr made hummous and baba ganoush and I made calamari with some amazing squid from Love the Fish Shop, then halloumi, marinated lamb kebabs and a greek salad. It was amazing. I am not sure we needed all of that food but we loved it.

It was the Balloon Fiesta in Bristol this weekend, which is one of those weekends you really love your city as it’s such a symbol of the city having the balloons in the sky. We were too busy to actually make it up to the fiesta but we watched from our front door on Saturday night with cocktails in our hands.

Sunday was even slower… I had a lazy morning on my own while everyone went climbing so made a nice breakfast and played about with the nursery, arranging her things on a new shelf and working out where some new prints will go.

2cede3f8027711e3896922000a1fbe1a_5  3162a05a026711e3bcc122000a1fa49d_5

Then we went for Sunday lunch in Wiltshire at my in-laws new place which is now a 40 minutes drive instead of 2-3 hours, amazing.

And now it’s Monday again… I only have 3 weeks left at work but I am seriously struggling now… so another quiet week is needed to help me along!

Last Week…

July 2, 2013

Last week was a busy one…

We headed to a friend’s wedding on the first weekend, at Clevedon Hall which has the most beautiful grounds, it made for some amazing portraits. My friend is the wedding planner there so I can highly recommend it!

My bump is growing all the time, luckily a friend lent me a pretty maternity dress to wear… I love the colour, hopefully I will get to wear it again…

 3eed9ef2dbdc11e29dd822000a1ddafb_5  3e80f80adac011e2999722000a1fcf03_5

I had a marathon cleaning and sorting session at home, one of my favourite things to do is to sort through things and get rid of things I no longer need. Then I filled the house with peonies…

f883d362dc4b11e29bea22000a1f90d2_5  c3feb920dbf811e286e022000a9e1782_5

I am currently obsessed with my new perfume from Paris and this Elemis oil… little pampering treats are so important, as is red lipstick, as I grow bigger and bigger.

1ee6b0eedb5f11e2acc922000ae81df1_5  e1359f10dc9b11e2950f22000a1ddb60_5

We have finally had some sun, there are still cloudy days and the odd rainy one but the sunny days are making up for it… I am taking strolls when I can, slowly of course…

3b9740e6d85311e2933022000aa8032d_5  b77a6c26d8b511e2a82422000a9e07ae_5

One particularly grumpy day I decided to go to Harts Bakery near my office and treat myself, I had an awesome Moroccan spiced sweet potato and feta pie and spied some poppies by the side of the road on my way back… which actually cheered me up, of course the pie helped.

17cc47dcdd8b11e2bc9d22000a1fbcb9_5  1ae48c96dd8a11e2996f22000a1fbc6f_5

Friday I picked up some new wheels, a Pashley Little Black Bike… which I love already and must try to get out more this week before I can’t ride it for a while… then that evening stayed in for Mexican bowls and movies…

558c2bf8e02611e28f8522000ae80193_5  356dd2eede6011e2b5f422000a9e5ad5_5

Then at the weekend we took it easy, I haven’t been sleeping well and my energy levels are quite low at the moment but it’s so important to still get out and do things, and see people.

Saturday we mooched down our local high street to buy our Sunday roast meat at Rare Butchers, and pick up freshly grown herbs… they were setting up for a street party so the road was closed and the bunting was up, love that.

We visited a little flower stall where the flowers are picked from local gardens, and had a coffee in the sunshine.

Then we got in the car and headed to the Cotswolds for a friend’s birthday lunch, the pub we visited was amazing. The garden was huge but all sectioned off in little areas by flowers beds so it felt so secluded.

We went to The Wheatshef in Northleach, which I can highly recommend… the drinks selections, for those boozing and those not was immense, service good, food even better. The garden is beautiful and I so want to go and stay there!

I wasn’t the only preggo which was lush, and meant I didn’t bore everyone (I hope) by not being able to talk about anything else, and being able to compare experiences with someone pretty close to due dates as me was great… makes everything a little less scary and easier to laugh at. The barman also made us delicious elderflower and mint carafes which made us both very happy.

The best thing though was the ridiculous portion of fries, it turned out this was for two people but when pretty much the whole table had ordered some we still had a lot. A lot, a lot, a lot. I was pretty happy with the situation.

Happily I am craving normal healthy food again as well, Sunday I wanted juice so my husband made me this amazing pink lady apple, pineapple and kiwi juice. So. Good.

Then we had a friend over for a summery roast chicken which we served with roasted Jersey royals, home-made ratatouille and steamed asparagus. So simple and delicious.

e64e5936e17a11e2954322000a9f134e_5  50395146e19111e2a5d322000a1f90e5_5

I also had the most amazing present for the Baby arrive, in the shape of a quilt from my Godmother… it’s so beautiful it went straight into the cot. She is getting quite the collection now.

We also finally finished my chocolate from Paris… which was quite upsetting, I need more of those!

cae83fece10011e297fa22000ae91219_5  65e94046d5b611e2b06022000a9e289e_5

And now it is Tuesday already, I wasn’t quite ready for the week to start yesterday… but I am looking forward to a yoga class and going shopping for a big list of Baby needs this week.

xx

Last Week…

June 17, 2013

It has been a busy couple of weeks for me with two trips away but I did have a weekend at home in between…

We returned from Greece to a sunny UK, which was much appreciated as was this beautiful pink sky as we drove into Bristol, chocolate covered Oreo’s were my gift to my colleagues and they kept me going through my first day back at my desk…

71f1337acd6011e2a1fa22000a1f9261_5  1534fc4cce9711e2b2fd22000a9e0875_5

I spent most of the week doing what I always do and trying to recreate some holiday vibes, I came home even more obsessed with yogurt after eating beautiful thick Greek yogurt and honey every morning at our hotel and once again watermelon juice so my Husband made a big jug on Sunday and we pretended to be back on the beach…

9c4188eccdb911e28ea222000a9f1946_5  a743aec0d02311e29d4222000aaa07fd_5

I also relished simple dinners and cooked breakfasts at home with coffee and juice, eggs just the way I like them…

We celebrated my sisters birthday with an evening out in Bath, a naughty dinner of burgers and fries at a favourite stop Hall and Woodhouse (I am in love with the silver ceiling) was delicious and much enjoyed.

13d6edc8cfa111e2b0d822000ae80177_5  ef433342cfbc11e29a4b22000a1fb593_5

On Saturday we headed to Clevedon to walk along the seafront and the pier, where we saw the cutest proposal!

Then more birthday treats with a huge chocolate cream cake and champagne picnic on the grass…

Sunday was just as decadent, and more cream for me with a Sunday lunch in the countryside followed by a tropical mango and passionfruit mess and then headed home to pack for a trip to Paris with my Mama!

It might be Monday and I might have just had a week off but I am super tired today and already looking forward to the weekend, that’s bad right?

Last Week…

January 22, 2013

This post is a little late, I was ill most of last week so took yesterday off to recover…

Last week started off so well… we made some delicious dinners, meatballs with an amazing tomato sauce from scratch, and a new Mexican favourite from A House in the Hills which I will share with you soon.

dd00c2f05e9a11e28ad722000a9f1498_5  6f25a4d65f4811e2a86422000a1f9839_5

We also started off with beautiful blue skies, and I have a really lovely lunch time walk… later in the week we all know what happened, just as beautiful but not quite as easy to walk around in…

2971bf505f5311e28e5722000a9f195f_5  a314d532615011e2ad1322000a9e28e6_5

I am afraid dry January ended, one particularly cold night my husband and I were out for an early date and decided a beer was just what we wanted so we decided to stop being miseries and have one. It was gooooood, a dark chocolate-coffee tasting stout at Brewdog, then we went and ate a mountain of Thai food at a pub (probably one of the few palces that does good Thai food in Bristol) and were both immensely happy…

93ed78205ffc11e2968922000a1fbe74_5  136c1c0e601711e2aa3022000a9e2931_5

Biggie was super cute and looked after me while I was ill, sitting with me… I tell myself that’s what he was doing he was probably more worried about who was going to feed him…

4f1f2fc2601a11e2912322000a1f933e_5  f615a81a618c11e2a55d22000a1fbcd5_5

On Saturday we made a trip to our local high street, tackling the ice and snow in our Wellington boots to get supplies… we hit the green grocers, the local deli and Marks Bread… where we brought all the food…

I had thick hot chocolate and croissants and then later a sausage roll… Marks Bread’s sausage rolls just become my new favourite in the city…

2f3ce0d4623411e2a2fe22000a1f8ce3_5  d94f280a623b11e2831222000a9e08e7_5

There was much tea drinking and chocolate eating, magazine and book reading and grooming… I was trying hard to rest but also distract myself from feeling too rubbish and therefore being a grump…

29834cc25f4c11e2935222000a1fb825_5  fbd5ef145e6a11e2a0d522000a1f970a_5

Then Sunday I baked a carrot cake, again nice easy tasks to keep me busy and keep me warm… and we met some friends for breakfast at our favourite spot… I swear their full English is getting bigger!

e19a0620624e11e2a6b122000a9f3070_5  4579d818630e11e282c522000a1fa433_5

Biggie got to the point where he was super bored of being stuck inside and spend most of yesterday mewing at me and wandering around after me… he has been out in the snow but I don’t think he’s too keen… he went back to snuggling after a few hours of moaning…

Then we spent the evening making French onion soup (which takes hours) and drinking some delicious French wine given to us by our in-laws… Saint Emillion is my favourite…

Perfect Sunday evening action.

I am back to full health now I think, stupid temperature drops get me every year!

Last Week…

December 17, 2012

…was one of those weeks that have left me feeling so blessed and had me smiling all the way to work this morning.

Lots of time with my closest friends; amazing.

It started last Wednesday with a day off to set up my school friend Hannah’s wedding… she had the most amazing December wedding at a big country house in Somerset.

We spent the day setting up all the decor and details Hannah had planned… with cold skies and a deep frost the views couldn’t have been prettier.

0a74f350449211e2a55d22000a1fbcd5_5  23abdc1e450811e2829522000a1fa769_5

We ran around our county pile like children checking out all the grand staircases and chandeliers…

1bb9ac0647ca11e287f422000a1f9afa_5  1160de4647ca11e2bfbf22000a9f1935_5

…ballrooms and the library…

c94acf8647c911e29dbc22000a1f9e59_5  bd3ede4447c911e28e5d22000a1f979a_5

It was a mini adventure… and it’s a beautiful house…

c2b6ae42446d11e2890222000a1fb0b2_5 3e89565844fc11e29dbc22000a1f9e59_5

I loved sneaking into all the rooms, getting a bit scared of possible ghostly residents and running away again with the other bridesmaids, and finding crazy little ornaments and furniture…

521ae9e047ca11e2b85522000a9e28f2_5  bd6498b247cb11e2866422000a1f9c90_5

And seriously, those views… it’s times like this that I just adore winter.

5527b22a449211e2abce22000a1f96d4_5  12828ab644b111e2930d22000a9f12ad_5

Then after the rehearsal in a very cold church we headed over the border to Wiltshire for a night in Hannah’s parents village, which is just amazing. Their cottage is like my dream house.

85ea7010478e11e2a2ce22000a1fa411_5  b064fd38478e11e2971f22000a1f8c25_5

Hannah and her parents simply spoiled us rotten, we had beautiful bridesmaid dresses, tons of presents, got our nails done and ate a homemade feast of lasagna before drinking lots of little cups of tea by the fire.

It was lovely getting to hang out with all the other girls a little before the big day… there were 11 of us after all…

963886e2449011e2974222000a1fbdac_5  e43667a0449111e2896422000a1fb003_5

Then it was wedding day!

Here are (some of) the beautiful Bridesmaid dresses and a sneaky peak of Hannah’s stunning gown… and my babys breath bouquet… so cute.

One of my favourite moments was when Hannah surprised her Dad with a drive to the church in his favourite car, a red Triumph Stag.

The church, in the prettiest Hamlet ever, was lovely as was the very relaxed Vicar, a really amazing ceremony despite the cold… we sang Christmas hymms and shed little tears of joy as Hannah and Tim said their vows…

c50bee1a47cd11e29cc222000a9f38cc_5  bd40ced047cd11e295e122000a9e2965_5

The favours were little knitted Christmas tree decorations… we got a little angel and a snowman, already taking pride of place on my tree.

e7d9ba1447cb11e2b5f422000a1f9a34_5  e014262a47cb11e2802422000a9e0927_5

There was of course lots of bubbles, as well as Kir Royals, mulled cider and Indian food for the wedding breakfast, flowers in jam jars and Marmite jars (Hannah’s favourite), Christmas trees and glittery stars, as well as beautiful candles everywhere.

We had a our photos taken with fun props in the photo booth before dancing the night away to all the classics from our school days.

Hannah was the most beautiful bride as you can see. She is one of the best people I know and deserved to have such a wonderful day.

Huge Congratulations to her and her new Husband, big love to you both.

Friday we made it home a little hungover and spent the day at home getting ready for my friends visiting from Australia…

We ate wedding cupcakes and I added my bridesmaid mouse (in a replica dress) to my dresser to make friends with my bird…

e8bd52f2478e11e29ade22000a1f9bd0_5  fbea8336478e11e2962a22000a1f930e_5

… then that night we went to see the XX at Colston Hall which was amazing… then more drinks with all of my university friends… resulting in yet another hangover on Saturday (that’s number 2 people)…

Saturday was our Christmas drinks party at home, I hardly took any photographs with all the fun of friends but we made sausage rolls which went down a treat as well as a huge cheese board including a baked Camembert (always a hit) and a ton of crisps and dips and wedding cake (thanks Hannah for the catering of my party!)…

I just LOVE having friends over, my favourite people in my favourite place eating delicious food makes me very happy.

I love having guests and made lots of poached eggs on different toasts… you gotta try Marmite under poached eggs! And you all know about my love for avocado toast…

Then we spent the day yesterday at the Tobacco Factory eating lovely tapas and drinking red wine and declaring our love for each other. I really do adore my uni crew, I wish we all still living within yards of each other so this was a regular occurence.

Soppy me, soppy me. I loved it. Again please.

Last Week…

December 13, 2012

Last week was a good one… as usual I ate a lot of good food, and am paying for it this week with lots of extra walking and salads needed!

We had a dinner with my Father-in-law, where I was brave and tried again to like olives before feasting on steak and crème brûlée before going to my favourite spot for cocktails…

b9a994963d7311e28eb922000a1fbc88_5  6a39a6783d9911e2bb5122000a9e2955_5

The Milk Thistle is so lovely, like an old speak-easy. The interior is gorgeous and the staff are great, they have changed the menu and when I badly tried to describe my old favourite cocktail the bartender remembered it and made it for me. That is service. (the clover club – ask for it!)

8de9befa3d9911e297bf22000a1f9263_5  a45bdeb63d9911e2aeb222000a1f9e7e_5

We also had friends over a couple of times, I made a mushroom risotto… my favourite kind of dish for entertaining (easy but delicious) and served our favourite Marks Bread baguette with olive oil and cheese… followed by gooey chocolate puddings. A strong menu in my opinion!

d6ec749c411a11e2bb5122000a9e2955_5  26f50df03fd611e283e622000a1fb86d_5

Then Friday I had a girly night in with a friend and we feasted on charcuterie and more cheese with red wine and gossiped for hours whilst watching rubbish television…

f0ec2518411a11e2a77722000a1fbc49_5  348c16e8411b11e2aadd22000a1fbd6a_5

Saturday I had my first wedding for a month! It was a subtle winter wedding, with diamonds and baubles…

We spent the afternoon setting up the wedding breakfast tables, setting them with silver pine cones and fairy lights, whilst the downstairs was set up for welcome drinks with pretty baubles and a christmas tree…

4df48662414b11e2a3aa22000a1f97a4_5  2d3430b2414b11e2a58222000a1fb810_5

And as usual Edward Allen’s flowers looked amazing, especially in the beautiful winter sunshine we had that day…

d9fade28414a11e29fe522000a1f97ce_5  7a89c8ac42fb11e282fd22000a1cbab3_5

Then I went to meet my Husband and some friends for cocktails and beers at Brewdog, a new spot in Bristol which we love already… beautiful surroundings and amazing service and I loved my old fashioned (with added beer) cocktail…

b6a9ed92414f11e2ad8422000a1fa8e9_5  d167f14442fb11e2808622000a1f9aaf_5

Before walking home along the river… we arrived south of the river to find a lantern parade had closed our whole street, there were a few schools involved and there were hot air balloons in the playing field as well as the amazing paper mache lanterns. So cute.

Then we watched movies and ate burgers with Biggie the cat… and I had some down time with Vogue… with added mince pies and Irish cream!

Sunday my plans changed last minute as my Mama was poorly so I had a free morning and we decided to go and blitz our Christmas shopping… we hit Park Street, where a lot of my favourite shops are… and meaning we could stay away from the main shopping malls and the crowds… we hit Boston first for coffee resisting these cute breakfast egg and bacon tarts (must make!)…

Then we went to meet friends at the Christmas Spiegeltent, an amazing travelling ballroom that has arrived in Bristol, they are throwing parties and Christmas events most nights but Sunday was the Christmas Love Food Festival so we went down to meet up with some friends… I really want to win that gingerbread house!

There were lots of stalls selling lovely gifts but we were more interested in the eat now options… I had the most delicious lamb roll with the freshest tasting salsa verde. A great combination. Inspired me for a future Sunday dinner…

We also got a great idea for our Christmas party, after having some amazing mulled cider we are serving that instead of wine, and cheddar (my favourite) tastes amazing served with it…

We finished off our feast with some delicious churros with chocolate sauce. I must apologise for feeding one to our friends kid… sorry for the sugar rush we left you with. Opps!

Then we stumbled home with our very full tummies… past gothic churches and cold winter skies…

And hit the pub on our way for warming amaretto and Innis and Gunn – my husband is obsessed with this beer, made in Whiskey barrels!

This week is very special, I am away today to be bridesmaid to my friend Hannah… hopefully I’ll be able to share that with you next week!

Last Week…

December 3, 2012

This is my first Christmas (in the UK) with instagram… it’s going to be bad you guys!

I hope you all had a good weekend… Mine was lovely, mostly because I was at home a lot (sound familiar?)

Last week I got  more birthday presents, my friend Michele knows how much I love macaroons and these came all the way from the Dubai store… I love the cute little pink box.

I shared them with a friend over some amazing Chablis… a very soft wine I don’t get to enjoy very often.

There were some beautiful bright winter days, with a real chill in the air, all the leaves are well and truly gone now!

I also saw the most beautiful pink sky, I actually ran out of work early just to see it.

I was thinking that with things like that when you’re on holiday you make an effort to go and see but its rare to do it at home as much, so I did.

I went straight out and I am glad I did because minutes later it was gone. This iPhone photo doesn’t do it justice.

There were of course snuggles with Biggie who literally only moved from this spot to eat and go outside… otherwise this is where he is.

It is also the start of my amaretto obsession which always comes into effect around this time of year, my husband and I went to our new favourite local pub; The Hare and drank this and ale in candlelight. I do love that pub.

Friday I finally made time to get my hair coloured… it’s been a long time coming. I got some glossy magazine time, so rare these days and felt very silly with a million foils in…

I highly recommend my stylist Jo at the G Road Mack Daddies, she is the best, I trust her completely and let her do her thing… she is turn knows I am conservative with my hair so doesn’t go wild just different enough that I feel like I have had a change.

I did a little bit of selfish Christmas shopping, treating myself to a cute advent calendar with chocolate and some new glasses for the dresser from my favourite place to buy homewares… Reason on G Road.

I also took my Husband out for lunch, to his favourite BBQ spot in St Nicks Market Grillstock.

I am sure everyone has tried this by now given the huge queues at all times but if you haven’t then go, we had everything on this board…

The ribs were so amazing…

Friday night I was home alone, I had a ton of work to do, so Biggs and I got comfy and I got it all done. It might be sad working on a Friday but I really enjoyed the rest of my weekend knowing it was done.

I also made myself the best cheese plate and watched my favourite movies…

I found this delight in Marks and Spencer… peanut butter heaven indeed! I am so pleased peanut butter desserts are finally hitting these shores…

Then Saturday December arrived and I started to get my decorations out… I have so many special ones now it was such a joy unwrapping them all. These are my most high-profile ornaments; they get the best spots…

I made myself a new favourite of poached eggs on avocado and toast, so fresh and healthy, so tasty. I had it on Sunday too.

Then we went for walks in the sunny park, and went to buy ourselves a Christmas tree.

Do you remember that song about Christmas trees? I always feel bad picking mine out and leaving the others behind. I mean you’d think I’d be over that by now!

Saturday was my friend Hannah’s Hen dinner, this was a chance for her family and all of her friends to meet up… she hired her favourite cafe Tart on G Road, which looked so lovely all dressed for Christmas…

They made us a feast, we arrived to sausage rolls and little chicken and tarragon pastries, cheese straws and the best cheese scones… we all took some home in cake boxes.

Then we ate lasagna, I went for the vegetarian option of butternut squash and goats cheese in a small attempt to save room for dessert, which was a selection of chocolate treats…

Hannah made us all party bags full of sweets, she is the cutest. She is good people.

Then Sunday we finished decorating… we strung up lights along the stairs (more to come) and I made a centrepiece from pine cones and baubles…

I started in the living room, on the mantle and the tree looks so wonderful in the dining room…

I mostly stared at my tree, in between doing lots of little jobs around the house, we finally put the last few bits on in the kitchen, just one more thing to do and it’s done (skirting boards are a pain!) with all of our art on the walls it finally feels finished.

My favourite ornament looks so happy to be out of the box…

I snacked on those delicious cheese scones with some chutney and creme fraiche…

And filled my sweetie dish with my party bag treats…

Before enjoying a beautiful roast made by my husband, finished off with mince pies for dessert… while I got my diary together for the coming week…

I ate so much good food this weekend… with more of this coming I think it will be soups and salads for me this week!

xx
